Shel Silverstein

If you are a dreamer, come in

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

a hope-er a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...

If you are a pretender, come sit by my fire

For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.

Come in! Come in!

The Storyteller returns

The moon was half that night, a silver crescent shape hung up in a starry sky. The curtains were drawn in her bedroom and the light was had long been turned off so dark overwhelmed the room.

The clock on the wall would tell her that it was time to sleep yet all her mind wanted to do was think. The young woman lay in her bed looking up to the ceiling her life seeming to have past so quickly she could hardly grasp it; however one thought rang through her mind and she spoke it aloud to the night eavesdropping night.
"My God, I haven't written in so long."

Those words seemed like a key which would open a treasure chest of imagination that would fill the whole in her heart.
She pushed herself up from her bed, like a zombie of sorts beckoned to her stance by the faintest of callings that hummed through the winter night like the contagious notes of the Pied Piper.

The young woman sat at her desk, her hands found the tip of her quill; which had not been touch for what seemed like a lifetime.
In the darkness of her room she wrote with no light, to guide the way of her hand, other than that of her imagination, re-inspired.

As her quill scratched to the edge of the parchment and as her ink splattered fingers eagerly reached for another page a smile lit the young woman's face and to the listening night she cried. "I'm back!"
And so the Storyteller did return...

...I have returned.

Behind the begining.

Once upon a time there was a little girl that was never allowed to enter a library. This was because she was notorious for tearing the covers off books. when asked why she did this, the little girl replied.

"I was just looking for the beginning of the story."
"But the beginning of the story is right here." the questioner said, pointing to the first page of the book.
The little girl looked at the book for a moment before shaking her head.
"That's where the story starts!" and she ripped the cover from the book. "but where is the beginning??"

Authors are very selfish people.
Don't try and deny it you know it's true. You think, 'They take so much time crafting this marvelous story and it was so kind of them to share it with me'. But there is so much more that they are withholding!! They give you just enough tales about the character for you to love them but keep the rest behind the covers.

The story truly starts years, even decades before Page One; it starts when the characters are born and maybe even before that. As an author, I get to see my characters grow up, make the choice's that lead them into my story scoop and trap them in my pages. As an author, I reserve the right to never show you this *insert evil laughter*

But as an overly sharing blogger I feel obligated to include you, lovely audience, in the entire process, I did promise an open story didn't I??
Also the more I share the more I learn, 'cause you guys are just that helpful :D

Page One of most books is the page just before things get interesting, but before things got interesting the characters had to develop into what you now see on the page. That my friends is what the little girl was looking for, the true beginning!
However, she wasn't ever going to find it hidden in the books covers. If she looked into the characters lives, into their pasts she'd have a better chance of finding it.

Without characters there would be no story, so it's only fair that the true beginning should be pieced together by the characters, themselves. That is where Character profiles do a world of good, they chronicle the characters journey to Page One. I find that these little chronicles are the most fun, you can really get to know the characters.

This is the first step to writing a story, after you get the idea, so sometime this week I'll upload some character profiles for you, so keep your eyes peeled, it'll be worth it; believe you me ^_^

In which I make my return.

Once upon a time there was a young girl, she wished upon a wishing star. A passionate wish that all her dreams might come true; such a plea the stars couldn't ignore. So they sent her a magic lamp.
Every month the lamp would glow hot and a plume of golden smoke would be emitted from it and in the smoke the girl would glimpse the future and every time she would get so excited and happy about it that she could scarcely do anything for anticipation. But those wonderful dreamy futures never came to pass for she never strived to achieve them.

Dreams may come to you but only to tell you to chase after them, to encourage you to win the race. The prize at the end of the line--the center of the Tootsie pop!
The race may be the hardest part, but it's also the most fun: the breath before the dive, the cry before the crash, the moment before the future. All good dreams worth the rush are worth the risk, worth pain, worth the persistence and most importantly the practice.

Here seems like a good place to apologize for keeping my rambling to myself as of late. You may have noticed that I have a nasty habit of falling off the planet every now and again. It seems the trouble is, I can only ramble for so long before I must devote myself entirely to study. It's a terrible habit and vicious cycle but my insurance doesn't cover rehab. This slow heave and ho of my life has pulled me ever closer to my dreams.

On the upside, every time I come back my writing finds some mischievous way of improving itself and maturing into something marvelous. And I feel I'm ready to take on any story--most importantly the Vampiric romance I promised you dear readers. So with out further adieu I'll get on to writing it :D

In light of recent discoveries.

As stated before I was researching vigorously the art, the elements (or what you will) of writing. I now know the art of writing a romance, a drama, an adventure in which there will be tension, nail chewing suspense and mild comedy--all I have to do is practice. Practice, another word I don't like...but presently I can't bring myself to mind it because it means...
wait for it....

I have to write a story! To test out all those theories I learned :D
So thus begins operation story elements...and stuff, in which I will document my writing of a brand, spanking new story. I will give out writing tips and blog about things I learn along the way. Sound fun? I hope so.

So here is what the story is going to be about.
It's the cross between a dark and light romance; a little Gothic but then again that is to be expected of a Vampiric novel. A bit dramatic, that is just my preference, a little humorous too because flat out dramas...well they're dramatic! :P

However there is one thing I want to make sure of before going on this journey, I hope you haven't got it in your heads that the Vampire is good??
No, no, this story shall be original, and to achieve that it must be traditional. Because lets face it how many books out there have a Vampire that is actually evil? as stated in the definition?
A person, such as an extortionist, who preys upon others.
Yes, the vampire will be the love interest but he is not in any way shape or form good!

“Vice is a monster of so frightful mien, As to be hated needs but to be seen; Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, we first endure, then pity, then embrace”
-Alexander Pope

Have I intrigued you? Do you wish to come on this journey with me?

Dreaming is cool--until you wake up.

Once upon a time there was a little girl and she had a dream, her dream you are now quite aware of, but just in case your forgot, her dream is to become a published author.
Well who doesn't?

Now just remember, this little girl was very little, and her family (well most of it) claimed that she defiantly had a potential where writing was involved. (Side note; I hate the word potential, it just drags you right down with the not yet accomplished) The girls mother insisted that the little girl study grammar and the elements of writing. However the girl thinking she was pre-gifted with the art of writing, refused to do any such thing...

...of course until the day she did.
And this my friend is how I found myself four years later on one Tuesday in April pouring over writing tips on the internet; till my eyes bugged out my head. Well not really but it felt like that, I was starting to get a computer headache and the demeaning feeling that I really didn't know much about the art of writing.

There is one thing to know, it is very useful if you learn it early on 'with great dreams comes a whole lot of work'.
You've got to work your little butt off to get what you want, so with that in mind you need to make sure that what you want is what you need.
I need to be a writer! For one reason or another I'm positively dead inside with out some form of storytelling.

So I guess that means I have a lot of research to do *sigh* I elect that life have an easy button!. Lol :D
The good news is that I'm half way to my dream...hopefully.

So whats been happening on your side of the universe?

In which I am terribly lazy.

I felt it only fair to warn you that as of now I am terribly lazy and shall not be persuaded to do anything today!
On that note I shall tell you what I accomplished this week which warranted a good day off. Firstly I wrote two whole chapters in Devil's Helmet and presently have nothing left to say. I know I should start writing my Napoleonic Millvalley but I've got so much research to do its daunting; so I contented myself with doing math homework. Not a good trade off.

Lastly, I was busy all Saturday and decided it was only fair if I left my Sunday completely free to do everything that I wanted or nothing at all...but before I sign out and skip off to the rest of my day I do wish to tell you something.

I had planned to post experts from Devil's Helmet up here, but when reading chapters of my second draft to my editing crew (i.e. my sis) things got a little complicated, confusing and grammatically incorrect. Not to mention half the story stayed in my head while the other half is on the page, most disconcerting and I'd hate to confuse you or taint your vision of Devil's Helmet.
However I still wish to share it with you I just need to find another way of doing that *hmm* any suggestions??

Procrastinating about procrastination...

So sorry about not posting for...awhile but I was busy falling off the edge of the universe....

Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl that had it in her heart to do everything all at one and to do it perfectly. She wrote down her goals in life and all the things she wished to do, every morning she would wake up and look at her list. A smile would light her cherry lips and she whisper to herself 'I'm going to do that today.' as she pointed to every item on the list. But every night the list was just as long as it had been the day she wrote it and every morning the girl would wake up and say. 'I'm going to do that today...procrastinating her life away.

Procrastination is the thief of time.
-Young.

So basically all I did in March was 30% writing 20% homework and 5o% procrastinating about how I'd do both items later, and later and later....etc.
Not very fun if you ask me.
So I've vowed to be different, I've vowed that in this glorious month of April I will do everything on my really long list to-getting-published one item a day--at least. Does that sound like procrastination in the making??
And I've vowed to post at least twice a week...I miss posting alot.
So what have you guys been doing while I was away? Anything fun? How is your Spring break going?

I really want to know :D
